2011 – Year in Review – Wedding Formals by Jeff

One aspect I love about my job is the fact that we tend to find ourselves in different places all the time.  That gives us a great opportunity to shoot a variety of photos and always forces us to try something new.  We like that!

As difficult as it was, I narrowed down all the formals for the year to the 35 below.  We define formals as anything posed.  I can’t say these are all my favorites, but they do represent a great cr0ss-section of the variety of images we take.  We want to make sure our client’s don’t all receive the same exact photos.  I hope you will see evidence of that below.

Too fun not to do…the driver said, “No one’s ever taken a photo like that before in this car!”

Posed inspired by a Ralph Lauren ad – shot at the reception site in Manchester, NH

From our destination wedding in Panama last February.  I had this shot in my head for three days.

The corotu tree was the centerpiece of the resorts plaza in Panama.

These ladies were fierce!  Taken at Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, MA.

I’m just glad Kim wasn’t afraid of heights!  Taken at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA.

Another from the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA.  Love the symmetry!!

I love the simplicity of this shot of Jenny.  Taken around Trinity Church in Copley Square Boston.

Twilight shot with Lauren & Mike at the Newport Yachting Center, Newport, RI.

This is a great example of taking wedding photos in unexpected places.  This was at a cemetery in Andover, MA.

As soon as I saw this bench, I knew Joanna would love it.  Just her style.  Taken in Beverly, MA.

This one makes me laugh out loud every time I look at it.  Look closely at the wedding party in the background – you may see something unexpected!  Taken at Nubble Light House in York, ME.

Sometimes (okay lots of times) we have fun with formal photos.  This was taken next to the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge, MA.

Taken on the same set of stairs as the image above, but a completely different perspective and shot.  Thanks for being brave Amy!!

The light and repetition of columns in this hallway at the Sheraton Framingham were too good to pass up for a bridal shot of Stephanie.

Although this looks like Scotland or someplace like that, it is actually Hammond Castle in Gloucester, MA.  Alaina and James have darn cool taste in venues!!

The tide couldn’t be more perfect for this shot of Joe and Johanna on the Cape.  Her background in dancing help Johanna nail her pointed toe!  And kudos to Joe for not dropping her!

Although the ceremony and reception were both onsite at the Hawthorne Country Club in North Dartmouth, MA, Kellye and Kris opted to go off-site for the wedding party formals.  We’re all really glad they did!!  “Tank, fort, pier!”

The carousel in Hull is a small reminder of Paragon Park – a long-gone-by amusement park.  Michelle and Joel decided to have some fun with their wedding party and snap a few action shots on the carousel.

Alyson and Tim had an amazingly beautiful day at Gibbet Hill in Grafton, MA.  This image, taken at the end of the reveal, shows how absolutely beautiful it was that day.

Just across the parking lot from the hotel, this great old barn was a perfect backdrop for this silly shot of Traci and Chris’ wedding party.

One of the most unique venues – Kimball Farm in Westford, MA (and weather situations – Tropical Storm Danny) – made for some truly unique images.  Here Tracy and Chris pose quickly between swings and raindrops.

Taken at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, MA, the old mill site was absolutely stunning.  And we could fit all 34 people in Kat and John’s wedding party into the photo!

The light in the house where Jane and her ladies got ready on the Cape was incredible.  Rarely do I see such beautiful natural light!

The beauty of doing an on-site before the wedding is that you have an opportunity to scout out locations like this for wedding party photos.  And in this case, have some ice cream.  This was from Jane and Chuck’s wedding on the Cape this past summer.

A little later, the fog rolled in on the beach and gave Jane and Chuck beautifully soft light for the formal photos.

Valerie was sneaking a peek at the groom and groomsmen outside the Omni Parker in Boston.  Her dress was simply stunning!

We took the ladies to the Boston Public Gardens for formals before the ceremony.

And then a few of just Valerie on the mall on Commonwealth Ave.

A walk in the woods with Todd & Kara gave us this shot…I really like the dept and textures.  Taken somewhere in Andover, I think…

I’m totally biased in saying that Lily was the cutest flower girl of 2011.  She’s my daughter, so I’m totally allowed…  🙂

Although you will rarely fine Lauren and Adam this serious (and quiet-ha!), I love how this photo captures another side of their personalities.  Taken at the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, MA.

Suzy and Ryan were totally excited to do a reveal and take their formal photos at the rustic Camp Kiwanee in Hanson, MA.  It totally fit their personalities and is practically in Ryan’s childhood back yard.

Although you can’t see the beautiful grounds of Independence Harbor in Assonet, MA in this image, it is still one of my favorites from this venue.  I thought about seeing how long Ryan could hold Suzy like this, but opted not to.  🙂

Another completely different venue – Mac’s Apple Orchard in Londonderry, NH.  This barn full of apple crates couldn’t be any better for a photo like this.  Thanks Krystle and Dale (and everyone else) for trusting us!!
