Katy & Tommy’s Wedding

The last time I saw Katy before her wedding, I said, "When we met several years ago as coworkers, did you ever think that I would be your wedding photographer?"

"I sure didn’t!" she responded. Neither did I.

Katy and I met when we both worked for a financial services company in N. Quincy. I had the most exciting job in the world – 401(k) recordkeeping – and Katy was in Human Resources. We bumped into each other occasionally in the cafeteria and every so often I would have a reason to stop by her office or send her an email. I never imagined that I would someday photograph her wedding or anyone else’s for that matter. Funny how things turn out sometimes.

The day of Katy and Tommy’s wedding started at Katy’s mom’s house. All the ladies were getting ready there. Katy was in the make-up chair when George and I arrived. George got started with detail shots of Katy’s dress right away while I shot some candids of the ladies as they prepared for the day. Once the ladies were ready, we were able to take all the formals with the ladies before we left the house.

St. Mary’s Church was only a short ride down the road. The guests were seated. Tommy and his best man Mike sat at the front of the church. Tommy fidgeted nervously as he awaited Katy’s arrival. The ceremony began. The groomsmen marched down the aisle followed by the bridesmaids. The doors closed at the back of the church. The organist changed songs. The doors opened. Katy stood there with her dad. Tommy smiled from ear-to-ear. He wasn’t fidgeting anymore.

Following the wedding mass, the wedding party hopped into the awaiting limo for a ride to The Pinehills in Plymouth. We did our best to get a few steps ahead of them in order to get our gear in place before they arrived. After we wrangled the wedding party, we got right to work on the formals in the outside garden. We finished the formals with a few shots of Katy and Tommy strolling along the path between the greens.

The wedding party was announced into the reception. The last group introduced before the newlyweds were Tommy’s sisters Aly and Katie, and Katy’s brother James. Aly and Kate picked James up, carried him through the doors and then (as planned) dropped him right in the middle of the dance floor. It definitely took all the onlookers by surprise. Fortunately, Katy had no intentions of carrying Tommy into the room.

One of my favorite moments of Katy and Tommy’s wedding day was watching them from afar as they sat at their sweetheart table and talked. They were so animated and completely caught up in the moment. I snapped away with my camera hoping to capture the moment for them.

Once the dancing started, it didn’t stop. Mike and Jeff of Blue Line Entertainment were the DJs for the evening. They seemed to play every single one of Katy’s favorite songs because she rarely left the dance floor. And dance she did! Tommy did his best to keep up with her boundless energy.

Following their last dance, Katy and Tommy ended the night with a pom-pom tunnel exit out the front door to their awaiting town car – smiling and laughing all the way.

Katy and Tommy – thank you SO much for allowing George and I to share in your wedding day. We had a great time doing our best to keep up with your energy and enthusiasm! May it never fade!
