Heather and Pat’s Wedding

Heather and Pat are the classic example of High School sweethearts. One of the bridemaids even told me they were nicknamed "HeatherPat with no space in between because they were always together." On their recent wedding day, it became official that they will spend the rest of their lives together.

What I remember most about Heather and Pat’s engagement session is Pat’s family showing up and joking with Pat. They said they were coincidentally "just grabbing breakfast down the street." I’m not sure if Pat really believed them or not, but it made for a memorable moment.

The day of the wedding, George and I arrived at the Bayberry Inn Bed & Breakfast in Plymouth, MA. Tucked into a residential neighborhood, the Inn sneaks up on you. What makes the location wonderful is how peaceful it is. It’s just a short walk from downtown Plymouth, but you feel like you’re out in the country…with a view of the harbor, that is.

Heather and her entourage occupied the top floor of the B&B. When we arrived, she was getting her hair done. I snapped a photo with her hair being held straight up. "That picture better not end up on your blog Jeff!" exclaimed Heather. We all laughed.

Once everyone was ready we went out front to take formal photos with the ladies. The shade of the oak trees out front provided a bit of relief from the heat. Water from the gracious inn-keepers made it that much more tolerable.

We arrived at Indian Pond Country Club nice and early. Everyone was a bit nervous about the outdoor ceremony due to the bright red storm cloud cells on radar. The decision was made to get the ceremony started as soon as possible in hopes of getting it in before it started raining. The guests were ushered to their seats and we took our places. Kat, our intern, was at the country club when George arrived. Her job was to capture as many details of the day as she could and she did a wonderful job of doing just that.

The good news is that the ceremony went as planned without a drop of rain. Pat and Heather exchanged their vows, rings and letters that they tucked into a wooden box along with a bottle of wine to be opened on their 25th wedding anniversary. The crowd cheered as they walked back down the petal-filled aisle.

Heather and Pat made the call to head out to the well-known and frequently photographed stone bridge which was located a short golf cart ride away. We would squeeze as many photos in as we could before the expected rain.

We got the whole wedding party up on the bridge as quickly as we could. We then did a few more photos with the bridge in the background and ended our time at the bridge with just Heather and Pat. It started to shower lightly as Heather and Pat started to walk back toward us, so we quickly jumped into the golf carts and headed for shelter. The good news is that we never got much more than a sprinkle. Phew!

We finished up the family photos in the bridal suite and then went back outside with just Heather and Pat for a few more photos before the reception. Time and weather were both on our side!

The reception was held in the main ballroom. The rear wall of the ballroom is all glass that overlooks the rolling green hills of the golf course. Large chandeliers lit the room from above and a large dance floor in the middle gave everyone plenty of space to "bust a move." One of the highlights of the evening was a video presentation of Heather and Pat’s "love story." It was put together ahead of time by their videographer, Tim Briggs. Portions of the video were individual interviews that neither had seen before, so it gave George and me a great opportunity to capture candid reactions to the video.

DJ Greg Hodges really got the party going after dinner. Heather loves to dance and was on the floor for just about every song Greg played. She even convinced Pat to come out for a few dances. Their last dance was so much fun to watch. They were totally caught up in the moment and each other…exactly the way it should be on your wedding day.

The night ended with a bang – literally. The couple had planned for a sparkler lined exit and did so. It was right at twilight, so I was able to grab a quick picture before they entered the awaiting Rolls Royce. Just as they were getting in, fireworks started going off from a nearby location. They were a surprise for Heather and Pat and a wonderful way to finish their wedding day.

Heather and Pat (or should I say HeatherPat) – Congratulations on a truly wonderful wedding day! We’re so happy the rain held off and that you were able to have your outdoor ceremony. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share in the celebration with you and your families. We want to do it all over again!

Heather was just a little excited about getting married!

I love the simple elegance of this shot.

 Wind?  What wind?

George was flat on his stomach with the wide angle for this one.

What a gorgeous couple in a gorgeous place!

 My favorite kind of candid.

George Photoshopped in the lady bug…alright, not really.  It landed there for about ten seconds before it flew away…

Here’s a collage of the details Kat captured for us.

 The shot we planned for…
