Dianna and Joe’s Wedding

Second chances seem to be a rarity these days.  First impressions seem to be the only impression one is allowed anymore.  The good news is that Dianna (with some encouragement from her family & friends) went on a second date with Joe even though she admits there weren’t any “sparks” on their first date.  And now they’re married!

We arrived at Dianna’s place in East Boston where all the ladies were getting ready.  Dianna was sporting her white Bride hoodie and veil and her apartment was a flurry of activity.  I snapped a few photos of the dress and then George took off to meet up with Joe and the groomsmen in the North End.  I continued with detail photos around the apartment.

Dianna was soon in her dress and ready to go.  Her parents live downstairs and we stopped in to their place for a few photos before we left.  On our way to the church, we stopped off at a park in East Boston for the formals with the ladies and Dianna’s parents.  A short time later, it was time to get to the church.

The trolley dropped of the ladies and I a couple of blocks away from the church while the limo pulled right up to the church with Dianna and her parents.  Sacred Heart Church is nestled in the North End right by the Paul Revere house.  The red brick façade towers above the cobblestone square.  The upper church is reminiscent of old world Italy with it’s many paintings and icons.

Joe stepped from the wings as the ladies began the processional.  I could tell he was excited.  He anxiously looked toward the back of the church in anticipation of Dianna’s arrival.  The music changed, the doors opened and Dianna and her father came forward.  Dianna’s mom cried tears of joy and Joe’s brother put his arm around him as Joe saw his bride for the first time on their wedding day.  He was elated and so was Dianna.

The ceremony was simple and beautiful.  Once the priest officially declared their marriage, Joe and Dianna sealed it with a kiss which was greeted with enthusiastic applause.  They proceeded out of the church and onto the cobblestone courtyard.  A short walk to the trolley and they were on their way to their reception.

The reception was held at the beautiful Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon.  Guests were greeted by the aroma of hot hors d’oeuvre and the elegant sound of live piano music.  The wedding party was gathered into the bridal suite, given some details regarding the night’s events and then we got straight to work on the formal photos.

The grounds at the Spring Valley Country Club provide a variety of photographic locations.  We did the majority of the photos next to a pond with a beautiful fountain in the background.  A few more family photos were taken a little closer to the function room.  We finished with a few of just Dianna and Joe right next to the deck as the sun set in the background.

One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is “hanging out” with the wedding party as they’re getting ready to be announced into the reception.  It used to be that George and I used to both wait in the room for the announcements until I realized that no one really sees this behind-the-scenes moment.  I especially enjoyed it at Dianna and Joe’s wedding because they danced non-stop as the rest of the wedding party was announced.  They just couldn’t wait to start the party!!

Once the party started, it really didn’t stop.  Dianna and Joe shared a first dance and were then toasted by the best man and matron of honor.  A little later, Dianna shared a dance with her dad followed by Joe and his mom.  After that, the dance floor was a busy place the rest of the night.  We had the opportunity to do a few family portraits throughout the night and we even snuck outside for a few minutes with Dianna and Joe for a night shot with the beautiful glass-sided function room in the background.  And did I mention the outdoor fireplaces?  Yup, they had those too!

The reception was over almost as quickly as it started.  We couldn’t believe how fast the night flew by.  I’m sure Dianna and Joe felt the same way.  It was a wonderful celebration with two amazing, huge, crazy, funny Italian families that won’t soon be forgotten.

Dianna and Joe – thank you for giving us the opportunity to celebrate your wedding day with you!  We had a blast and wish we could do it all over again!  And Dianna – we’re glad you decided to go on a second date with Joe.
