Emily & Tom’s Wedding

I walked into Emily’s parents’ house the morning ofher wedding and was greeted by a very lovely group of ladies.  It turns out that the majority of them were on the swim team together at Yale – Emily included.  Their swimming charades during the formal photos were priceless.

I got straight to work on the details – dress, shoes, and jewelry.  In the back of my head, I was trying to figure out if George was in Plymouth with Tom and they guys yet.  A short time later, Emily stepped into her dress and all the ladies helped with the finishing touches.  We stepped out back for a few formals before the limo arrived.

Meanwhile, George had met up with Tom and the guys at Plymouth Harbor and were out on the jetty getting some fun formals before heading to the church themselves.

The ceremony was held at the Holy Family Church in Duxbury, MA.  I had remembered from our on-site visit some of the beautiful natural light in the sanctuary and was excited to shoot their ceremony there.

What I like about each wedding I shoot is that each one is different from another.  The unique aspect of Emily and Tom’s ceremony wasn’t a fun dance down the aisle or a random surprise.  It was much more subtle but incredibly special.  The priest who married them actually married Emily’s parents thirty years prior.  Not only that, but he was Emily’s uncle.  What a special moment that must have been for him, especially since he was able to watch Emily grow up and was now such an important part of her wedding day.

Following the ceremony, we took the family formals in the church.  Once we finished that, we jumped in the limo and headed for a small private beach for the rest of the formals.

It couldn’t have been a nicer day at the beach.  We took care of the immediate family photos first and then had some fun with the wedding party.  A few girls from the swim team decided to climb into a dinghy and had some good laughs that George captured so perfectly.  The sun was low in the sky and provided beautiful light for us.  Back to the limo and on to the reception!

We arrived at the Pinehills Golf Club a short while later.  The guests were enjoying cocktail hour and the wedding party still had some time to freshen up and grab a drink before the festivities began.  George and I dug right into the details.

A short time later, the guests were asked to take their seats as the wedding party was announced into the room.  Emily and Tom shared a first dance and then enjoyed toasts from Emily’s dad, the best man and maid of honor.

The rest of the night was just what it should have been – a continuation of the celebration of two amazing people.  Emily and Tom mingled, laughed, danced, and took in as much as they could of the few remaining hours of their wedding day.

Emily and Tom – thanks for being you.  We had such a wonderful time celebrating with you and your friends and family.  We hope that live continues to be filled treasured moments and joys unspeakable.  And Tom – we have our fingers crossed that you passed the bar!

The girls getting silly – great catch George!

This is a great example of our two different perspectives.  Here’s my shot standing atop a ladder with a wide-angle lens.

And here’s George’s perspective – standing on the ground with a zoom.

The scene at the beach was fantastic!

 And so was the light…
